La Bola Negra

Three stories intertwine in Los Javis’ ambitious melodrama of Spanish queer history.

A soldier fascinated by a prisoner of the Civil War, the story of a man in pre-dictatorship Spain blackballed from his father’s club, to a present-day man wrestling with his family’s history. La Bola Negra is a celebration of Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca’s enduring legacy, which reimagines his work as a sweeping operatic epic starring an enigmatic young cast and scene-stealing turns from Penelope Cruz and Glenn Close.

"This decades-spanning love odyssey is as impressive as it is moving, grabbing at the visceral nature of Lorca’s genre-bending work to mould its staggeringly boisterous cinematic equivalent." — Rafa Sale Ross, Little White Lies
