Rebellion

The landmark struggle of the Bradford 12 comes urgently to life in this powerful new documentary.

In 1981, twelve young Asian men were arrested after preparing to defend their community against an anticipated far-right attack, sparking a major campaign for their freedom. Drawing on remarkable archive footage, first-hand testimony and a collectively staged reconstruction of the trial, Rebellion captures how a community organised in the face of racist violence and fought back.

"For me, this film is personal. It has taken me 40 years to tell it, and it is a story of the wounds of my own life, in the scars of my generation, and in the courage of those who stood with us." — Tariq Mehmood, Co-director
