Salvation

Winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at Berlin Film Festival, Emin Alper’s Salvation is a deeply unsettling folk-horror-like examination of the roots of atrocity that fills you with foreboding until its searing end.

In a remote village high in the Turkish mountains, the return of an exiled clan reignites a decades-old land feud. As dormant resentments resurface, Mesut, the local leader’s brother, is seized by dark visions that he believes to be divine warnings and soon tensions surge in the community.

"This apposite demonstration of religious convictions being used to prop up concrete actions, spurred on and given fuel by tribalist rivalries, elevates “Salvation” from a merely striking mood piece to an astute psychological study." — Catherine Bray, Variety
