Variations on a Theme is a captivating, lyrical portrait of life in rural South Africa.

Elderly goatherd Hettie is drawn into a scam promising long-overdue compensation for her father’s wartime service, unsettling the rhythms of her everyday life. Moving gracefully between documentary and fiction, Jason Jacobs and Devon Delmar create a tender, richly observed portrait of Hettie and her Kharkams community, alive to memory and the poetry of the everyday.

"A pure, fresh, surprising cinematic delight." — Lee Marshall, Screen Daily
