The sole directorial credit for the great actor Albert Finney, Charlie Bubbles is an oddball British cult classic, a surreal comedy building on the innovations of directors he’d worked with earlier in the 60s. Finney plays Charlie Bubbles, a successful writer suffering a midlife crisis, who attempts to reconnect with his northern working-class roots and estranged family. The film was included in the opening line up of Bradford’s Cinecenta and is accompanied by a talk by film critic Mark Goodall about the history of this unique chain of cinemas. Please note the film will follow the talk, which will last about an hour.

This screening will be presented with additional descriptive subtitles of non-dialogue audio. Visit our Accessible Screenings at LIFF 2023 page for more information and other accessible screenings at the festival.
