Whispers in May

A tender coming-of-age film about friendship and identity that blends reality and fiction, and challenges the boundaries of documentary filmmaking.

Set in a remote village in south-west China, Qihuo and her two best friends set out across the surrounding mountains to find a new ceremonial skirt, while their parents work away from home. The journey challenges their friendship but also offers a glimpse into the fleeting balance between childhood and adulthood.

"A meditative lyrical observational documentary about a 14-year-old Chinese girl living in the remote Liangshan Mountains" — Murtada Elfadl, Variety
