Timothy Treadwell AKA ‘The Grizzly Man’ spent thirteen summers living amongst grizzly bears in the Alaskan wilderness before being attacked and killed by them. During this time, he recorded huge amounts of video footage of that is masterfully presented by Werner Herzog, a director known for his direct, frank and often bizarre take on the world. Far from a rugged outdoors man, Timothy Treadwell is a naive but obsessive figure, inspiring in us both admiration and pity. Herzog uses Treadwell's footage to explore our relationship with nature and the medium of film in this acclaimed and deeply touching documentary that has been called one of the best films of the 2000s.

This screening will be in collaboration with Slime Presents, a northern based film night bringing you the best picks from blockbusters to arthouse. With a focus on new audiences, they make film viewing an exciting and down-to-earth experience.

The film will be followed by a Q&A from emerging filmmakers and film programmers Catherine Jablonski and Edward Barnabas of Slime Presents and Cut Throat Pictures who will be discussing filmmaking practise and exhibition, and how putting on DIY film screenings has given them a greater understanding of films, their audiences and the way they approach their work.
